About Alberta Education
Alberta Education is the organizational arm of the government that oversees all education in Alberta. While Home Educators do not always agree with governing bodies, SHiNE's overall experience in communicating with the people at Alberta Education has been a positive one. (Alberta Education was formerly called Alberta Learning, prior to November 2004).
Alberta Education has expressed to us that they genuinely want to hear from Home Educators -- especially the positive experiences that we have, and what we are happy with, but also any difficulties with school boards, specific regulations, policies which are not working, etc. Contact Marc Prefontaine or Doug Coffin by:

More Alberta Education Home Education Information...
The following documents outline the limits and extent of the legal responsibilites of all parties involved in home education in this province. It is important to realize that these documents not only outline the freedoms and responsibilites of home educating families, but they also outline the responsibilities of the school boards and the government agencies who serve us. They are well worth reading and the legal language is not as difficult as it may first appear.

The Funding Manual is changed every year, as it involves changing dollar amounts according to funding from the government.
